⸺ SERVICES
Four ways to work with Torc Advisory Group
Leadership, strategy, coaching and board advisory — different routes in, same way of working.
⸺ THE APPROACH
Every engagement runs on the same three questions.
Whatever the service, whoever's running the business, the work starts in the same place.
The framework Dan brings from his years as a Business Advisor is grounded in three questions.
01
NOW
A clear-eyed look at what's working, what's stuck, and what's actually causing what.
02
WHERE
Defining where the business needs to go, in plain terms, and getting alignment on that.
03
HOW
The practical work that closes the gap, the moves and the accountability to make them happen.
⸺ AT A GLANCE
Four service areas, all built on the same way of working.
LEADERSHIP
Building high performance teams and developing people within them.
STRATEGY
Facilitating the plan and driving the accountability to see it through.
⸺ 01 / LEADERSHIP
Building high-performing teams and developing people within them.
Leadership work runs across every level of a business — from senior teams setting direction, to mid-level managers running the day-to-day, to emerging staff stepping into leadership for the first time. The work meets each layer where it is.
What it looks like in practice depends on what the business needs. That might mean aligning a senior leadership team that's drifted out of step, building a leadership program from the ground up for project managers and site supervisors, or developing the next generation — giving younger staff the skills and confidence to lead before they need them.
Programs typically run for 3, 6 or 12 months and combine workshops, one-to-one coaching, and Mindshop tools. Each is shaped to the audience and the outcome — there's no packaged template.
"I can highly recommend Dan as someone who builds engagement, develops people and gets results."
DANIEL BRISKEY · MANAGING DIRECTOR, NRG SERVICES
⸺ FOR FAMILY RUN BUSINESSES
There's a specific strand of leadership work for family businesses — built around the question Dan hears most often from owners: how do we keep family family while the business does what it needs to do?
That might mean developing a written family charter — an agreement on how decisions get made, how disagreements get handled, and how the family stays the family. It might mean working with the family in real time, as they navigate the dynamics of running a business together.
Or it might mean working with the next generation as they step into leadership, building the skills and authority they'll need to run a business their parents built.
"Dan has been a trusted advisor to me and an important source of support in the growth of Blades Construction. He is someone I trust completely. I would recommend him without hesitation to any business owner looking for an experienced, insightful, and highly professional coach.”
STEPHEN BLADES · MANAGING DIRECTOR, BLADES CONSTRUCTION
⸺ 02 / STRATEGY
Facilitating the plan and driving the accountability to see it through.
Most strategic plans don't fail because the plan was wrong. They fail because nothing happened next.
Strategy work at Torc Advisory Group is built around what comes after the planning — the practical work of turning a plan into action, keeping people accountable for what they signed up to, and facilitating the meetings, conversations and decisions that actually move the strategy forward.
The work starts with a strategy day or planning session — getting the leadership team into the same room, asking the right questions, and walking out with a clear plan. From there, the focus shifts: regular facilitation sessions, accountability check-ins, and the practical follow-through that closes the gap between what was agreed and what actually happened.
This isn't strategic consulting in the traditional sense — no slide deck at the end, no thick report on the shelf. Just a business that's actually doing what it set out to do.
"Dan challenged my mindset and helped me step back from day-to-day execution to gain a clear, strategic view of the bigger picture. Through this process, I developed a strong understanding of where I want to go and what I want to achieve — which enabled me to put disciplined, actionable strategies in place."
TYGUE CLELAND · EXECUTIVE GENERAL MANAGER, CNW ENERGY
"Dan brings a sharp external perspective, practical commercial insight, and a strong strategic network that consistently adds value beyond the immediate project scope. His mentoring approach, ability to challenge thinking constructively, and deep business advisory experience have made him an outstanding partner to work alongside. Dan has been instrumental in helping shape clearer strategic direction while also providing trusted support at both leadership and operational levels.”
STEPHEN LUCHT · DIRECTOR & COMMERCIAL MANAGER, OBARDARE GROUP
⸺ 03 / COACHING
Helping each team member be the best version of themselves.
Coaching at Torc Advisory Group is one-to-one work — focused on individuals inside a business, and what each one needs to reach their full potential.
What it looks like in practice depends on who's in the chair. Coaching at the senior level often focuses on strategic thinking, decision-making, and finding the time to lead deliberately rather than reactively. With newer managers, it can be about stepping into authority and having harder conversations. With individuals across the business, it might mean working through stress, productivity, or finding the strengths the role rewards.
What stays the same is the format — regular, confidential one-to-one sessions, shaped to the person and the goal. Some are short, focused engagements; others are ongoing partnerships that run for years.
Coaching can also extend to Mindshop's tools and frameworks — for leaders who want to learn how to apply them in their own work.
For many of the leaders Dan works with, coaching is the part of the engagement where the real shift happens.
It's where they get a sounding board, an accountability partner, and a different frame for thinking — outside the business they're running.
"Working with Dan over the past 15 years has been nothing short of transformational for both our business and our lives."
DEAN & LYNDA MCCARTHY · DMC CONSTRUCTION GROUP
"Engaging Dan as my business coach has been a highly valuable and impactful experience. He creates the space to step back from the operational demands of running a business and think more strategically about leadership, decision‑making, and direction.
Through coaching with Dan, I’ve strengthened my leadership capability and approach challenges with greater perspective and intention."
ANNALISE ARCHER · DIRECTOR, SHANAHAN SWAFFIELD PARTNERS
⸺ 04 / BOARD ADVISORY
Bringing outside perspective to board-level decisions
There comes a point in many businesses where the strategic decisions need a perspective from outside the executive team. Board advisory is the work that happens at that point.
In practice, that can mean an advisory board built from scratch, an independent voice on an existing board, or an ongoing strategic role that sits between board and executive level. The format follows what the business actually needs.
The work itself is what boards do best — reading the business commercially, asking the questions that don't always get asked inside the room, and connecting strategic direction to what actually needs to happen on the ground.
Dan brings what boards need from this kind of role: long years in the Managing Director role in a multi-disciplinary firm, financial acumen developed at board level, a network built across Queensland industry, and direct experience as Chair on the boards he's served on.
